Nilaveli Beach

(Trincomalee District)

Nilaveli (Open-land of the moon-shine) is a coastal resort town and suburb of the Trincomalee District, Sri Lanka located 16 km northwest of the city of Trincomalee. It is one of the most beautiful beaches in Sri Lanka renowned for its soft white sand and breath-taking bays. Nilaveli is famous for recreational water sports such as scuba diving. The beautiful turquoise seas of Nilaveli are safe for swimming, snorkelling and scuba diving from March to September.

Hiriketiya Beach

(Matara District)

On the south coast, the area around Dikwella is gradually becoming more popular with travelers looking to escape the increasing development further to the west.

Public busses are the cheapest way to travel in Sri Lanka. From the bus station in Dikwella, there are numerous tuk tuks to take you the rest of the way to Hiriketiya Bay. It is about a 5 minute drive or it is only a 20 minute walk most notably the stunning little horseshoe bay at Hiriketiya which is backed by a small selection of great places to stay.

Here you can visit beautiful beaches, discover its amazing cafes and restaurants and see monkeys swinging by in the trees.The Average Annual Temperature is about 28'C. The wind speed is high in the May to September months, and the wave speed is high in this season. Hiriketiya Beach is the best place to visit from October to March. You can experience a hot and humid climate in almost all coastal areas of the island.

Go to Dikwella Beach town



Take some time to check out Dikwella Beach in town. It’s not quite as stunning as Hiri Beach but definitely worth a visit. You won’t be short of a bit of peace and quiet on this long stretch of golden sand.

Swing at Mahi Mahi



We searched Dikwella Beach twice for the famous swing we had seen so many photos.Mahi Mahi Restaurant have built some swings on the palm trees right on the beach. It’s pretty sweet to swing out over the water and enjoy an ice cold beer here for sunset.

Arugam Bay Beach

(Ampara District)

Towards the southern end of the east coast, the village of Arugam Bay is a popular destination with independent travelers drawn by the charms of its beautiful, palm-fringed beach.

Surfers originally put the village on the map by visiting to ride what are widely thought to be some of the best waves in Sri Lanka. The beach continues to attract plenty of surfers, but its laid-back vibe and offbeat charm provide wide-ranging appeal. Tours of nearby Pottuvil Lagoon are easily arranged, as well as motor-boat trips out to sea in search of dolphins.

The best time to visit Arugam Bay is typically in April to September, during which the waves are at their peak, enticing surfers from all parts of the world. Also, the rainfall, although a tad unpredictable, is generally low at this time of the year.

The Arugam area has many great bays, and Elephant Point is one of those. Elephant Rock is located at the end of this bay and is a great place to get up and have a view of the whole area.

Bentota Beach

(Galle District)

Bentota is one of the best beaches in Sri Lanka. It sits on the west coast, runs south from magnificent Bentota lagoon and is lined with a string of alluring hotels.

Bentota is also Sri Lanka's watersports hub. Behind the beach, the calm waters of the lagoon are perfect for kayaking and jet-skiing, while boat trips up the river to explore the mangroves and tangled waterways are easy to arrange.

Hikkaduwa Beach

(Galle District)

Hikkaduwa is another south coast beach that’s especially popular with backpackers. It’s an energetic spot, featuring plenty of restaurants, bars and shops. Each July, Hikkaduwa hosts Beach Fest, a five-day music festival that draws international DJs and revellers galore. The surf is another attraction that brings people to this shore, with the season running from November to April.

You'll also be able to experience outstanding snorkelling at the Coral Sanctuary just a couple of hundred metres offshore.However, the Hikkaduwa turtles can be found at Turtle Beach all year round.Colourful reef fish such as angel fish, butterfly fish, parrot fish, snappers, and wrasses can be seen frequently among the corals. Blacktip reef shark are found along the outer slope of the reef.

One of the more secluded beaches in the southern coast, Jungle Beach is an idyllic stretch of golden sands that allow you to admire the grandeur of the Rumassala Hill on one side, and the stunning Indian Ocean on the other.

Ideal after a trek to Rumassala Hill, make your way to Jungle Beach to shake off the humidity and heat. Wade and weave through a thick jungle before finding the enticing blue waters and warm golden sands. Marble Beach

(Trincomalee District)

Marble Beach is a beautiful and clean beach situated in Kinniya Road, Trincomalee. This pristine sandy beach is excellent for relaxing and the sea is ideal for swimming. The famous Marble Beach Air Force Resort managed by the Sri Lanka Air Force is also located here. Marble Beach is also known by the name of Marble Bay Beach and is one of the most beautiful beaches of Sri Lanka.

The name “Marble Beach” is derived from the fact that when the sea is calm on a clear and bright day, the surface can be seen to be shining like marble. This calm and beautiful beach is relatively untouched and remains to be clean with pristine clear blue water. The sea here is also popular for snorkelling due to the existence of large schools of coloured fish.

Thalpe Beach

(Galle District)

Thalpe Beach is a beach situated in the Southern province of Sri Lanka, close to the city of Galle. It is a popular destination among both locals and foreigners. There are vibrant shops, restaurant and various water sports related activities to do in the surrounding area of Thalpe.

Thalpe is a quiet town nestled away from the hustle and bustle of the major towns situated in the southern coastal belt. Thalpe town is filled with history, adventure, culture and cuisine along with the Thalpe Beach which is a relatively clean and calm beach. Stilt fishermen are commonly seen in this coastal town and it is a great way to learn more about the way of life in this beautiful coastal town.According to the villagers the rock pools were cut out of the corals around 50 years ago and was used to soak coconut husks in order to separate the coconut coir.Rock pool beach best time to visit is early morning from March to April. At other times the pools are filled with sand.

Unawatuna Beach

(Galle District)

Unawatuna is one of the biggest tourist destinations in Sri Lanka and is the most “famous” beach in the country. It is a lovely banana-shaped beach of golden sand and turquoise water, surrounded by green palm trees.It is located approximately 15 minutes away from Galle and the Galle Fort.

Unawatuna Beach is ideal location people who are looking for sun sand and Sea. Very Beautiful and one of Sri Lankas Top and attractive beach. Its safe and November to April season is very good to swim and enjoy the Unawatuna Area. There are few restaurants around there.
